Preparations began soon after for 2006.
With the support by the Port Kembla Returned Soldiers' Club and local councilors the project began to take shape and the 'real' message of Friendship for Life began to evolve.
On the 18th April 2006, the Friendship for Life ceremony was introduced to the community for a second year.
With light rain to compliment the commemoration on the day, prayers were exchanged, along with the raising of the Australian and Turkish flags and the sounds of the bugle.
Attendances included Liberal Senator for New South Wales, Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, On behalf of Wollongong City Councilor Zeki Esen, Noreen Hay MP, Jennie George MP, Ray Wetherall O.A.M, local RSL club members and community members.

"You have been described in many ways, not nearly enough to describe the man I knew. You are missed dear friend.
I know that every time I stand at a Friendship for Life ceremony, your presence is there.. with us.
Thank you for your friendship Ray, you brought great honour to the soldiers of Gallipoli.
May you rest in peace..." |
